There have been times where I have studied a particular subject or topic, for example history, for my exams. After doing so, I seem to see those topics everywhere, in the game shows on the television or the news, on the streets, or I hear someone randomly talking about it, way more than usual.
In reality, it is not that the people around us start talking about it more than usual, instead it’s our awareness regarding that topic that increases.
You may have seen a new object your friend brought that you were unaware of before. But after seeing it, you might have started noticing it more and more everywhere.
This particular phenomenon is known as the “Baader- Meinhof Phenomenon” or “The Frequency Illusion”. It makes us think that certain things happen more frequently than it actually does and therefore is a type of illusion!
Next time if you ever study or research a particular topic and happen to see it everywhere around you, now you know it’s your awareness level about the topic that has increased!
