Introvert is what I would use to describe me. But talking to people online, I feel far more confident and freely express myself than I do in-person. This results in me often hearing that my online personality is quite different from my offline personality!
On the other hand, you may have seen people posting a lot of hate comments on various social platforms. They sit behind their screens and post away whatever they feel. Looking at these comments can destroy your whole day. Especially when those comments are completely useless and do no good.
This happens due to the online disinhibition effect. This refers to the lack of restraint in communicating online. People usually are able to express themselves more freely as they can remain completely anonymous behind their screens.
This can be negative as well as positive. People can communicate more freely and confidently online. They can break their shell and let everyone know their real personality. But it can be negative in the sense that people can create a not so good environment and this can also increase cyber bullying.
To prevent this particular effect, you should is take a look at what you write. Introspect whether the particular comment would help the receiver. Think whether the particular user harms or insults you in any way. If you don’t like something such as artwork, you can simply move on instead of unnecessarily hating. Constructive criticism and useless hate are two different things. Spend your time taking part in something good for you and doing what you love instead of hating.
To everyone out there don’t be afraid to be yourself. Just be yourself!
