Growing up: a seed into a plant

When I was a child, I never seemed to understand why elders said “School life is the best. Enjoy it while you can because you will never be able to travel back in time.” Most of the time, I saw it as a chore and I just wanted to grow up. I wanted to be an adult; I wanted to stop giving so many exams. But from a certain point in time, I didn’t want to grow up anymore. It felt as if I was leaving behind a huge part of me that was so carefree and innocent. Growing up, that was earlier attached to the idea of “freedom” and not going to school, was now attached to the idea of responsibilities, finding a career option, working hard and being independent.

“You don’t understand the importance of something unless you lose it”. I can relate to this line a lot recently. The last days of my school life are passing by and all I can do is live it to the fullest. Rather than being disheartened, we should enjoy the time we have left. Life is too short to be taken for granted. Passing each day with gratitude and appreciation for getting to live is something that is needed. We never know when something or the other might change, life is unpredictable in that sense.

Go tell your family, friends, teachers, workmates and all the people in your life that you are thankful for them. Express your true feelings and compliment them to make their day. Don’t stress over little things. Take a look at everyone around you. Your family who loves you and wants you to succeed. Your friends who are going through this journey, called life, with you right by their side. Your pet who seems so excited to see you whenever you come back home. Your significant other who loves you for who you are. Take a look at the plants, flowers, trees, sun, birds and the sources of beauty near you. Learn to live in the moment. Enjoy every single phase of your life. It won’t last forever and every single phase teaches you something.

Your transformation from a seed into a plant is precious and delicate. There may be ups and downs in the way but in the end the prettiest flowers will bloom and you will turn out to be the best version of yourself possible.
