After studying a new topic, I seem to see the particular phenomenon everywhere I go. This occurs due to the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon or The Frequency Illusion.
Negativity bias: why so negative?
You may have noticed that you remember criticisms more than the compliments one gives. We tend to focus on negative events and are more likely to recall the bad things we encountered instead of happy events.
Halo effect: not so halo?
In the case of friendship, you might befriend someone who showed a positive trait but then later you find out that your friend isn't like what you expected.
Semantic satiation: Does this even exist?
Have you ever sometimes repeated a word continuously and felt that it sounds weird or that it doesn't make sense? You may end up doubting whether this word even exists or whether this is the right way to spell it.
Same genes, different traits
Even if your genes give you certain characteristics, don't be disappointed because you can achieve much more through the environment provided but this too happens within a limit placed by genes which cannot be crossed!
Distance: you cherish or you forget
"Out of sight, out of mind” and “Distance makes the heart grow fonder", both these statements are contradictory but true. They depend on the situation one is placed in, the social environment and various other factors!
Placebo effect: the power of mind
Placebo effect is used to improve a person's health or well-being by making them believe in the treatment they are receiving, even if the treatment may not have healing powers! This shows how much power our beliefs and ideas have in healing us.
What’s mirroring you?
Our brain has a way of empathizing with other people and generating a closer bond with them and we may not even know we are doing this most of the time!
Are you a bystander?
Be the change and don't hesitate to go help someone in need even if people are around! If you see someone being bullied, stand up against it and go offer them a hand.
