Reactance: don’t open this link!

Reactance phenomenon refers to an unpleasant reaction when a person's freedom of behavior is threatened. When the feeling of freedom is threatened, preventing you from acting as you wish, it makes you want to protect your freedom and control it.

Zeigarnik effect: inc_mplete tasks

Our brain is better at recalling incomplete or interrupted tasks than complete ones. We are more motivated to finish it. Our subconscious mind tells our conscious mind to make a plan to achieve the goal. After the goal is achieved, our mind no longer works on making plans for it.

The mere exposure effect: preference for familiarity

Familiarity with things can help reduce our perception of them as threats. Eating the same cuisine amidst a variety of choices, developing a preference for a particular song after repeated listenings can be a doing of this effect! But can our preference decrease after repeated exposure?

Same recipe, different taste?

Have you ever felt that food made by someone else tastes better than the one you made despite it being made in the same way? You are already exposed to the food you have been making for a long time. This extended exposure decreases the earlier want to eat and makes it look less desirable.

Boundaries please!

Boundaries help make healthy relationships. Doing so does not make you self-centred. It's okay to reject something if you are not comfortable with it. It's okay to take a break and not always be ready to be a helper. It's okay to vocalise your feelings. It's okay to put yourself first. Respecting others boundaries is needed if you want others to respect your boundaries.
